Chapter 4
One of the passages that I really liked, page 96 :
"'Well, right now this is how it is. I can either accept it, or make myself miserable.' The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral, which always is as it is."
In some situations I've seen I find it amazing how differently people can take the same exact situation. I have also found that people who take things lighter have a better outlook on life and are just more enjoyable to be around. This excerpt has helped me when I feel a little overwhelmed in a situation, I try and step back and see things for what they simply are at that time. I try and stay aware of what my thoughts are even if I am not saying them out loud.
I haven't watched any of the webcasts yet. Has anyone else been able to catch them?
On a different note, what the heck kind of name is Eckhart? What do you think his nickname was growing up? Eck-y Seems like a hard name to me in my 'present consciousness' and this is coming from the girl who named her son Ajax!

A Lesson on Worry
I watched the chapter three webcast yesterday, and was inspired to write the following blog on my personal blog site. Since it was about the book I decided to copy it here. How is everyone else coming along with the book?
>>>
"Worry pretends to be necessary, but doesn't really serve any useful purpose." Eckhart Tolle
This is something I have always understood on some level, but have forgotten at times. I remember even as a young person trying to tell people that worrying doesn't do any good for them, that they need to let go of the attachment and deal with whatever is going to happen when it happens.
I have found that as I have gotten older I have experienced many of the things which create worry in us and seem to extinguish that happy-go-lucky vibe that is present in abundance as a child, and make us feel and appear much older than we are. Those experiences have caused me to lose that wonderful part of myself, at least to some extent.
However, in this recognition, I am finding and appreciating that part of myself and am in constant practice of it now. It feels good.

A New Earth
Sounds like we have come up with our next book! A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. Here are links to the Reading Guide , Oprah's Webcast , and Overstock where I found the book priced at 10.65 with shipping included.

Let's decide on our Next Book
Ok Ladies, I'm back from my trip and wanted to get started on a new book. I would really like to keep the book club going and not let it die out before we even meet up! So in an attempt to revive our group and get us all talking again I'm throwing out my idea for what the next book should be.
(drum roll please)
The White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Some have already read it and it's an older book so those who don't have it can get it cheap. What do we think of this?
